At the turn of the century, Rosa Murphy, the private secretary of John D. Rockefeller met Dr. Amos Canfield in New York City. They married and decided to spend their summers in Candor, N.Y. Here their Georgian home was created in the center of the village and Rosa's elegant Victorian style became well known.

The well maintained formal home exists as it did then with its leaded glass windowed porch, marble fireplaces, parquet floors, beautiful stairway, gardens, pergola and gracious atmosphere.

Candor, NY is located centrally in the Finger Lakes. It is a short drive to Cornell University and Ithaca College. A drive to Watkins Glen, Corning, Elmira's Mark Twain country, Binghamton and Cooperstown can be exciting as well as visits to the many wonderful wineries and New York State Parks.

 Accommodations at our Bed and Breakfast:

1 Suite with sitting room and private bath. 2 Rooms with private baths. 2 Rooms with shared bath. Full breakfast as you would have enjoyed at the turn of the century, served in a genteel manner. Huldie's Room. Appointed with queen size brass bed, 1860 chest of drawers, tastefully decorated room. AC, private bath, c1908.

Marcia's Room. Furnishings - 1860 and before. King size bed, dressing room, AC.

Canfield Room. Furnished with an 1823 Acorn bed made in Ithaca, NY and a Stickley style oak bedroom set made in Nichols, NY in 1906. AC.

Scott's Room. Queen size iron and brass bed, elegant antique dresser and wash stand and Day Man's bed add to the comfort of this large room. Private bath, c1908. AC.

 The William Morris Suite. Large suite appointed with queen size Charles Rogers brass bed, Oriental rugs, Morris Chair plus a comfortable sitting room with a couch containing a single pull out bed for Grandma. All is compatible with the Arts & Crafts movement. Private bath. AC.

Directions: From Rt. 17 Exit 64 at Owego. Follow signs Rt. 96 to Candor. (about 10 miles). Located where Rt. 96 and Rt. 96B meet from Rochester. Go to Ithaca and follow signs to 96B (past Ithaca College) 18 mi. south to Candor. Right hand corner where Rt. 96 and Rt. 96B meet. From Watkins Glen take Rt. 224 to (Spencer) Rt. 96.
